How Long Does an Audit Take?
The burning question is, how long is this audit going to take? And the answer is, I don’t know. I am here to make this as painless and fast as possible. What I will say in my experience specifically as an enrolled agent, and this is specific to enrolled agents, the IRS understands the knowledge and the experience that enrolled agents have because.
We are trained and tested and have continuing education for IRS procedures and practices. So when I get in front of an IRS agent and I’m representing my client, I am there to make this fast, easy, painless. That’s the goal. Some IRS audits can take two months. I’ve had IRS audits take four years. It depends on the scale of the audit, what’s found during the audit process, but the goal is to always have the taxpayer expose the least amount possible because they are protected by rights, and to have the audit go as short as possible.
