Peter brings twenty-six years of proven experience to his role as a trusted advisor in the fields of business development, client relations, and marketing at PLR. He has earned a reputation in South Florida as an expert on adult development, senior care, aging in place, and special needs clients. Peter enjoys the strong firm culture and deep client relationships at PLR.
Background
Peter was born at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, and grew up in South Coventry Township, PA, just 25 miles northwest of Philadelphia—the “City of Brotherly Love.” His career has seen him live and work at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ, R.I.T. with deaf populations in Rochester, NY, and FIU in Miami, FL. He currently resides in Hollywood, FL, with his wife, Martha Leighton, where they have lived together for twenty-one years.
Peter holds an M.S. Ed. in Higher Education from Florida State University, with a specialty in group leadership and dynamics, and a B.A. in Psychology, with an emphasis in Counseling, from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He served as a volunteer corporate trainer and ambassador for BNI-Miami from 2007 to 2020, training over 2,200 local small business CEOs and C-Level managers in word-of-mouth marketing techniques and brand enhancement. Additionally, he was a BNI Chamber Ambassador for The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce from 2010 to 2018.
Community
Peter has served on the boards of The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walks and Impact Broward for a combined thirteen years. He is trained by the State of Florida, Department of Elder Affairs, and The Agency for Health Care Administration, C.O.R.E., to manage assisted living communities. He is a Florida State-approved Health Care Instructor for Continuing Education Courses (CE-215) and is certified in Mediation by the State of New York, a certification he has held since 1997.
Away from work, he unwinds with his wife, who is also his best friend, and finds joy in live music, particularly Jam Bands, Jam Cruise, and all forms of improvisational looping and technical sound creations.
Peter often quotes, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast,” and believes that “Human connections and relationship building are the catalyst that make workplace skill sets sizzle.”
